March 20, 2010

-Emily-

I woke up beside Amanda, which was strange and it felt weird and then I remembered that today is Saturday, it was March 20th and in a few hours I would be walking down the aisle to marry Zachary. The sheer notion caused my nerves to bunch and my stomach turned. I lay there thirty minutes before I finally sat up in the bed. I sat there another ten before I got up and went to the kitchen. They had a two bedroom apartment with a very open living, dining, and kitchen area. So I knew they were both awake the moment I set foot in the front space. They both smiled and watched me get a cup and fix hot chocolate; I then sat down at the table with them.

Christopher smiled at me. “You’re going to be fine Emily, nothing will happen today and it will be perfect.”

“I concur, we’ve taken all steps to ensure that nothing, not even God, can ruin today. The sun is shining the weather is awesome and you are about to be Mrs. Hanson.”

I took a few sips and looked at them. “Nothing can guarantee that today will be perfect.”

“Well, we are going to strive to make it as perfect as humanly possible. But, really, that’s not why you’re nervous as hell.”

“Who said I was nervous?” So, I was, but really how could they know?

“For starters, you put three packages of cocoa in one cup. You did that when you took your SAT’s.” Craig said.

“You’re also shaking some; slight little tremors in the cup are giving that away.” Christopher said.

“Fine. I’m nervous. Aren’t I supposed to be?”

“Yep. I would image that Zac is probably just as nervous, if not more, than you are. It’s normal and perfectly Ok. It’ll fade once you step into the church and we’re all forgotten.”

I drank my cocoa and eventually Craig forced me to eat something, saying I didn’t need to pass out at the altar. Amanda finally got up and we were just waiting, making sure the hair and make-up people were on time and that we had everything I needed before leaving. Zac texted me the moment he woke up and even said he felt nervous as well. Amanda watched as we texted back and forth for thirty minutes before he went to shower and get ready. It seemed to settle my nerves none though.

I really shouldn’t be nervous and I wasn’t sure what the problem was really. I was looking around the room when my eyes settled on a picture, one I had seen many times. I got up and Amanda looked at me confused as I paused in front of the shelf, the only two pictures that existed of my mother and I. There was one picture of just me and her and one of her with all of us, Dad was in neither of them. It was taken hours before she died; I was literally a newborn in them both.

As I stood there the reality hit me that it wasn’t my father I wanted, it never had been. I had grown up in a house of men and never even knew what a mother figure was until I moved in with Craig. Sitting beside the picture of my mother and I was one of his Mom and I.

“Emily?” Amanda asked.

I heard her but the silent tears wouldn’t stop as the thin thread that I had held so tight the last few weeks as we planned finally just snapped. I handled everything so well, stress of planning and Adam and Dad and everything that at this moment, none of that was a concern.

I was pretty sure I scared them all when I started crying hysterically. Of course, Amanda made it to my side first she was in the room and I heard her questions, I heard her asking me to tell her what was wrong. Christopher was actually the next one, having showered first but his hair was still wet as I clung to his chest and just cried, not even aware that all he wore was boxers.

“I have no idea what is wrong.” Amanda said.

“I’ve got her, go ahead and get ready.” He replied.

I saw her nod hesitantly and then get up to go shower herself. I felt his arms around me holding me tightly I felt Craig’s hand too.

“Mom’s going to be there Emily; she flew in late last night.” Craig said.

I looked at him, his mom was as close as I came to one but she wasn’t my mother.

“Craig will you do me a favor and go ahead and lay my clothes out for me? I’ve got her really.”

“Sure. Do you want the suit or something comfortable?”

“The pants are fine but can you just lay my t-shirt out? I’ll put the shirt and jacket on when I get there, shoes too.”

“Sure thing babe.”

I saw Craig walk out of the room too and he continued to hold me. Then Christopher started singing, the familiar song that I’d heard all the time growing up. At some point all of them sang it to me, always in the same soft tones and melody and it never failed, I always calmed down. Today was really no different.

“I know why your upset Emily, I really wish I could make it better. But, I can’t bring her back for you.”

“I know that. Can you sing that again?”

“Whatever you want.”

I listened as he sang to me again.

Lullaby, and good night, in the skies stars are bright
May the moon's, silvery beams, bring you sweet dreams
Close your eyes, now and rest, may these hours be blessed
Till the sky's bright with dawn, when you wake with a yawn

Lullaby, and good night, you are mother's delight
I'll protect you from harm, and you'll wake in my arms

Sleepyhead, close your eyes, for I'm right beside you
Guardian angels are near, so sleep without fear
Lullaby, and good night, with roses delight
Lilies o'er head, lay thee down in thy bed

Lullaby, and good night, you are mother's delight
I'll protect you from harm, and you'll wake in my arms

Lullaby, and sleep tight, my darling sleeping
On sheets white as cream, with the head full of dreams
Sleepyhead, close your eyes, I'm right beside you
Lay thee down, now and rest, may your slumber be blessed

Go to sleep, little one, think of butterflies in spring
Go to sleep, little one, think of sunny bright mornings.

I finally felt calm and sat up, looking at him.

“It just kind of hit me, it was never him I wanted, and the one thing I never got was her. I know you can’t bring her back and nothing can change what happened.”

He smiled at me. “Do you have any idea why we sing that to you? It works every time.”

“No idea at all, I just know you all sang it to me all the time. I think George started it actually but I have no idea. I know he use to sing it to me after dad’s spankings.”

“We sing it to you because it’s the only thing of our mothers that we can give to you. She sang that to you before you were born, every night. She swore you heard her. George said you were about two weeks old and you started crying and wouldn’t stop. Dad tried everything before he just handed you to George and walked out. He said for some reason he started singing and sure enough you got quite. We didn’t think about it until much later, you heard her and missed it. Anytime you took those spells, we sang.”

I smiled at him. “You guys want to sing that all day? I might need it.”

He smiled. “I’ll get you an ear piece and sing all day if you need me too. Not sure how it’ll sound after a few hours.”

“I didn’t think it was possible to miss someone you never knew.”

“It is, believe me. I have bad days too.”

I saw Craig at the doorway. “Is it safe?”

“Yes.” I said.

“Good. We’re going to be late if he doesn’t get up and I don’t mind being late but I got the feeling if we get you there late, Zac may actually skin us alive.”

“May? No no, he would.” I said.

We got up and I looked at the pictures again and then went to the shower. I didn’t get wedding ready, just threw on some older stuff and then helped load the car, we left at 10:00 and was at the church by 10:30. I was there thirty minutes before Zac but I would be kept on the side room, away from everyone until time. The hair and make-up people were present along with selected females. George wasn’t arriving until 1, our wedding time was 2. Natalie, Nikki, Amanda, Stephanie, and Gina were all there. Isaac was bringing Penny and Ezra at 12:30, so they could have lunch and naps beforehand. We settled in to get ready…

-Zac-

I absolutely hated waking up alone and this morning was no different, Taylor had slept in here with me but he must have gotten up early. I laid in the empty bed for a little bit before I got up, I texted Emily first I had too. I was nervous and the butterflies were swirling around my stomach like they were being chased. I hadn’t felt this way with Kate. I just showed up; let them primp me and that was it. I finally let her go and got up, showered and slipped on just boxers. Taylor, Casey, Aaron, and Alexander were the only ones here with me and all of them had seen me in boxers or naked. Taylor was in the kitchen and handed me coffee, which I was glad for.

“No offense, you look like you want to throw up.”

I looked up. “I do want too. I feel like something will happen. Something horrible.”

“Nothing will happen Zachary. The security team has been watching the church for days and no sign of Adam or her father. George said there dad asked and they didn’t tell him when the day was.”

“He got his save the date Tay; he knows the date but not the time or place.”

He smiled at me and then he got my upper arms and held them.

“Listen to me Zachary, nothing will happen. The weather is perfect and the venue is secure. Nothing has been posted about the day or time and everyone that was invited was told not to post those details. Emily will be there. You know she will. This is what you wanted; she is the one you wanted all along.”

“What if I screw up?”

He smiled. “You won’t. The moment the back church doors open and you see her standing in her dress, which Nat said was gorgeous, you won’t even know anyone else exists until he turns and says you’re married. Believe me Zac; this won’t be like it was with Kate. We could all tell you were miserable.”

“You could?”

“Yep. Ike and I had front row seats and I never saw that spark in your eye like I do when you see Ems, believe me you’ll be fine.”

“What if shit goes downhill afterwards? Things were fine before Kate and I got married.”

He punched my arm rather hard. “Stop thinking that way. Emily is not Kate Zac. She’s nothing like that bitch.”

“Aw, good way to leave a bruise Tay.”

“You’ll be dressed so you won’t even notice it.”

Casey and Aaron made their way down the steps and Alexander followed soon after. Casey had shared with Alex. Aaron had stayed so he could be here incase Adam tried anything, not that he had. We milled around getting woken up, Taylor fixed a quick breakfast and we ate at the table. Then everyone started showering and getting ready. I had my suit in the bag still, wasn’t putting it on until I had too. So, I put stuff in the car and made sure I had our bags packed for our honeymoon. We had the rehearsal dinner Thursday and got whatever gifts were being given then. Amanda had gotten Emily a brand new set of luggage, customized it was a navy blue with light blue trim and her name, Emily Hanson, was engraved on each piece, Emily loved it and so did I. She had gotten me the same set and I had used those to pack with. Because she wasn’t here but knew where we were going she had laid out a lot of her clothes for me to pack. I triple checked while everyone else showered and got partially ready.

“Dude, still packing?” Casey said.

“I don’t want to forget anything.”

He smiled. “I know. I will give you what you need in the morning at the airport.”

“Why then?”

“Because I’ll be driving you guys. I got a ticket to Cali so I can pick up my things and I’ll be driving you guys to the airport.”

“Ok. That works for me.”

He went over the list as well and then I sat the bags against the wall. I had changed all the sheets and covers the night before knowing Tay and I were actually clean when we went to bed. I tossed on jeans and a t-shirt and then met them downstairs. Taylor went over the final list and we were about to walk out when my phone rang and I knew the number because it was programmed in.

“Hello Mr. Daniels. What can I do for you?”

Aaron stopped and looked at me; the others kept walking to the back door.

“I’ll be getting on a plane at 1:30. Where is your wedding? I am not missing this; I don’t care what she says Zachary.”

1:30? That means he wouldn’t arrive in time no matter what he done. Good.

“Our wedding isn’t until 6, at the museum. I know she said she doesn’t want you there and honestly I don’t want you there. But, you are her father.”

“I will be there.”

He then hung-up and so did I, Aaron gave me a very large smile. “You know the museum is closed today.”

“I do, but he doesn’t. Besides, he said the flight left at 1:30. Although, he’ll probably come here and ruin our night.”

Aaron smiled again. “We’ll make sure he leaves you alone. I’ll have George call.”

I smiled and we went out to the car. “Should I tell her?”

“No. She doesn’t need to think he might show up. Christopher’s texted me while I was getting dressed, she had a bit of a meltdown before they left. Apparently she missed Mom. He said he had to sing to her and that they were at the venue and surrounded by her future sisters and friends she was fine.”

I nodded and the ride to the church was quite, once there it was my job to make sure everything was perfect and to greet guest as they arrived. At 1, Taylor dragged me to the dressing rooms and put me in a chair so I could get ready. Ezra was there and he walked over.

“Uncle Zac!”

“Yes, buddy?”

“I saw Aunt Emily.”

“Really? When?” I asked.

“When Uncle Ike took Penny. Why is she so pretty?”

I picked him up and sat him in my lap. “She’s pretty for our wedding. Think you can bring me those rings? I’m going to need them.”

He giggled. “Daddy said they were important. I take care of them.”

I smiled and Taylor called him to get him ready. I unzipped the bag and got my tuxedo out. Casey grinned.

“I can’t believe I’ll get to see you in a tux in person and not in a damn picture.”

“Dude, take a picture they last way longer.” I said.

He smiled and I stripped and got dressed. The tuxedo was a nice fit, the vest were Mediterranean blue, the shirt was white and the tie was called Once upon a time, I wasn’t sure where she got those names but I was given exact instructions on which colors. The little flower was a light shade of blue and the cufflinks were my own, gold with H’s on them. I put my shoes on and stood in front of the mirror. The tie wouldn’t tie and it was Alexander that walked over and swatted my hands away, tying it perfectly the first time.

“What would you do without us?” He asked.

“Leave it off.”

He smiled. I sat down to fix my hair then. It was Dad that passed the shot glasses out at 1:20.

“To Zachary, may this marriage be blessed with many happy years and many grandbabies!”

Everyone giggled and then we drank the shot. At 1:25 I left the dressing room and greeted the last few guest and talked to the head security guy. He hadn’t spotted anyone we’d given them pictures of, which was great. I then walked to the church doors and finally went through them, thirty minutes and she would be coming in.

The floors had been polished, the blue ribbons hung from the pews at the ends, every other one. Delicate shades of blues, silver, and some white, the front of the church had large plants on either side, with blue and white roses, candles had been placed but due to the light pouring in left unlit, we would come back after dark and get some pictures with those I was sure. I turned and looked at the mirrors on either side of the doors, large ones that reflected the light. I finally made my way to the alter where in a short time I’d willingly tie myself to the woman I loved more than anything. I just had to wait now.

-Emily-

It was 1:00 and I was sitting as carefully as I could on the cushioned stool. I was dressed and ready. The bridesmaids were dressed; Penny looked gorgeous in her little light blue dress with the same dark trim as mine. She looked so pretty. The bridesmaid dresses were simple. They were strapless, but Amanda’s had clear straps because of her breast size. They fabric was gathered and ran left to right and then it flowed down from there, looking like it was wrapped around them. A dark blue band of ribbon went around their waist and tied in the back, the ends going almost to the floor. The bands matched my dress, while the primary color was an accent color for the wedding. All of the groomsmen’s vests and tie matched the primary color Zac was the only one that differed. We were just waiting now for the time to step out. People had come and seen me, Diana and Walker had come in and so had Craig’s mom and sister. Craig had snuck in a few times, grabbing pictures of us. Four of my brothers has stuck their heads in and made sure I was ok, all but George. Where the hell was he? I was getting nervous, bouncing my heels on the floor trying to ignore that it was now 1:30 and I hadn’t seen or heard from him. I was going to kill him if he didn’t show up soon. The final make up people touched up and left at 1:35. Amanda put the head piece on, a veil that was trimmed in the Once Upon a Time blue. It wasn’t long on either side, just enough really to cover my face some. She left the veil back for the time being.

“Where the hell is he?”

“He’s here Emily. I know it.” She said.

1:45 the lady called them out and left me there alone and two minutes later he walked in.

“What were you trying to do? Give me a heart attack?”

“No. I needed to settle Christina in and I took her phone.”

“Sorry.” I said.

He looked at me and just stood there. “You really do look like Mom, your gorgeous Emily.”

I felt the blush, grateful for the makeup.

“So, did your bridesmaid remember the fundamentals?”

“What?”

“Something old, something new, something borrowed, and well you got the something blue covered.”

“Shit! I completely forgot with coordinating security and details!”

He smiled at my frantic thoughts and then he kneeled in front of me.

“I have you covered Emily, it’s why I was late getting back here. I texted Amanda at 1 and she said she you hadn’t mentioned it. I already had something old, I just needed the rest.”

He held up a box. “Something borrowed, Christina had these beautiful butterfly earrings and she said you could use them and we’ll get them later. I’ve cleaned them with alcohol per Amanda’s strict rule.”

They were very pretty, diamond stud with a chain that held tiny gold butterflies. I changed them quickly; all I had was pearl studs. I wasn’t much for wearing earrings at all.

“Something new, it took time but I found a suitable necklace at a jewelry store close by.”

The necklace was plain though, just a silver necklace and he didn’t move to put it on me.

“Something old, I’ve been holding this for you for a very long time. I was going to give this to you on your 21st birthday but we weren’t talking. When Zac asked me for permission I knew today would be the perfect day to give this to you.”

He opened the small box and inside was a butterfly pendant, the butterflies’ body was black but the wings were various shades of blue diamonds, I’d seen it before though in pictures.

“It was Moms?” I asked.

“Yes, it was. It belonged to our grandmother and was passed down to Mom when she passed away. I found it when you left, he’d put it in a box to be thrown away and I took it home and kept it close.”

He put the pendant on the chain and put it around my neck.

“Something old, new, borrowed, and blue now you’re covered.”

I felt the tears in my eyes and blinked them away. I stood up and he inhaled sharply, I was almost as tall as he was in these heels. He fixed the few curls hanging around my face and hugged me tightly.

“Come on, we got to go get ready. There waiting on us and you’re not quite a Hanson yet, so no running on Hanson time.”

I smiled and he held the door open for me. I walked to the line and Amanda smiled at me. When I started getting dressed Amanda had cut everyone off, so only George had seen me fully dressed and ready.

Casey looked back and gasped. “Damn Ems, you know he’s going to faint or run down the aisle.”

I smiled. “He better not. He better keep his butt right where he is. He IS there right?”

He smiled and peeked up the window. “Yep. He is right where he needs to be, looking about as nervous as you.”

Taylor looked back and smiled. “If he looks faint I’ll just poke him. Although, I agree with Casey, if he don’t faint or run we’ll be shocked.”

Alexander smiled at me as he was ahead of me. “You look beautiful.”

“Thank you.”

The photographer had taken pictures of me with the bridesmaids and she said her other helper had done the guys as well. They got some of us standing here and a good one of George and I. They then vanished and moments later I heard the music start playing, we’d chosen to go with Never Let Go as the music for the bridesmaids and groomsmen, along with Penny and Ezra, which Natalie was walking ahead of them just to make sure they stayed on track. George and I paused as the doors closed they would make it to the front before the traditional wedding march music would start. I could barely see into the packed church, but what I could see was Zac standing there watching them walk down and he looked stunning in that suit and his hair was fixed nicely.

“I can’t do this.” I said.

“Yes you can.”

“No, I can’t. What if this is a mistake? What if…”

He got my hand and squeezed it hard. “This isn’t a mistake Emily. He loves you with everything he has.”

I looked at him and he moved slightly and moved the veil down over my face smiling.

“I know you want Mom here. Christopher told me what happen this morning. Emily, Mom has always and will always be there with you. You said you saw her in January in your kitchen. She’s always here. She’s always present. She’s watched over you and protected you, guided you. If she were here, she would be telling you to walk to him.”

He wiped the tear away before it ever had a chance of messing with the make-up. I felt a cold chill run down my spine and I turned slightly terrified that I would see Adam or my father standing there, ready to drag me away. The front doors to the church were slightly opened and to my amazement a blue monarch butterfly flew into the hallway. George and I both watched the butterfly fly from that door straight to the church doors that would lead me to Zachary. I heard the pause in music and then heard the familiar melody of the wedding march, that was our queue, but I looked at that butterfly and I knew it was her way of telling me it was ok.

butterfly
He held his arm out and I took a deep breath, the butterfly stayed on that door and I finally nodded. He knocked twice, signaling the two attendants to open them for us. I felt a billion different emotions as they pulled the heavy doors aside, that is until I saw Zac standing there near the preacher, the room faded but my eyes saw the butterfly as it waited and when I started moving George came too and for some reason that one butterfly landed on his shoulder, but all I saw was Zachary, the smile on his face was one I’d only seen a hand full of times. It was pure and undiluted happiness.

-Zac-

I’d been standing here for twenty minutes before the music came on and Natalie began to lead Penny and Ezra down the aisle, truthfully Casey had her ring and Amanda had mine, but Ezra didn’t need to know that. The bridesmaid and groomsmen followed them a few moments later, Amanda looked plum giddy and so did Casey. Once they had reached us and separated Casey leaned in.

“She’s absolutely stunning, so don’t faint or run.”

I smiled some and then trained my eyes on the double doors in the back. I could see George’s outline and barely hers, so I knew she was there. I felt faint honestly, standing in a church that was packed with friends and family and I was hoping and praying that Adam and her father stay far away from this place. The wedding march began but the doors remained closed, what was going on? I felt an uneasy feeling, had she changed her mind? Had she ran for it? Everyone was standing and looking at those doors, I saw Amanda’s eyebrows rise and she seemed confused as well. But then the two attendants moved to the center of the doors and began to open them. I saw George first, because that person was moving faster but then I saw her and I was sure I stopped breathing, stunning was an understatement and I had no real words to describe how she looked to me at that moment. Stunning, gorgeous, the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen in my life, those were close but not quite there.

Her dress was strapless and mostly white but cutting across the chest, just below the little bit of cleavage, was a dark band about two inches wide of the Mediterranean blue, it went down her sides and I presumed across her back. The veil was trimmed in the lighter color and I could see her hair was mostly down, curled around her face. The dress fit her perfectly as it flared down; she had to be wearing heels as well. Once the doors were closed though I could see in the large mirrors that band did extend around and then down the entire back side of her dress, fanning out at the back. Little white details adorned the trims and as she got closer I could see details in white beads on the front, a triangle that extended bottom up and just below the band down. As she neared me I could see she was smiling. I felt a small poke from Case.

“Breathe Zac.”

I finally inhaled as they came to stop at the foot of the steps; I took my queue and stepped down to meet them.

“Who gives this woman to be married to this man?” The preacher asked.

“I do.” George said.

He moved his arm gave her hand a final squeeze and handed her to me. Oddly, I noticed a blue butterfly flew off his shoulder and landed on mine and I went to move it but she stopped me and I didn’t question it, just let it be. She and I walked up the steps and after a moment, turned to face one another. I know the preacher began with a blessing before he looked at each of us.

Love is cultivating flexibility, patience, understanding and a sense of humor.  Love is having the capacity to forgive and forget.  Love is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. Love is not only marrying the right partner, it is being the right partner.” He said.

We both waited, because our vows were coming up, Casey presented me with her wedding band and pressed it into my hands, he’d taken one from the pillow but it was in his pocket. Her wedding band was a gold band with the matching stones to her engagement ring, darker blue in the center with lighter ones outside, three on each side.

“Zachary and Emily have chosen to write their own vows, Zachary will you please recite your vows at this time.”

I got her hands and looked at her, forming the right words had not been easy but I took a deep breath.

“From the moment I saw you I knew that you were my one true love, the person I was destined to be with, to grow old with and to share my life with. I love everything about you and you’ve shown me things that no one else can. I promise, from this day forward that I will cherish our days together and I will love you more each day that passes, I will trust you, respect you, laugh and cry with you. I will love you faithfully through good times and bad ones. Today, I give you my hand, my heart, my soul, and my love from this day forward.” I said.

I saw the tears in her eyes and the preacher told me I could place the ring on her finger, so I slid her wedding band onto her left finger. Setting it perfectly where it should have been years ago.

He then looked at her and Amanda passed her my wedding band, a simple gold band because I didn’t want much.

“From the moment I heard your voice I knew that you were the one, the person I should be with. I am sure people thought I was crazy, promising that you were the only man in the world for me.”

She paused and shot a look at her brothers who all smiled.

“You have shown me true love and respect, shown me what a family is supposed to be like and how to be a better person without needing to compromise who I am. I love you with everything I have and I promise, from this day forward that I will cherish our days together and I will love you more each day that passes, I will trust you, respect you, laugh and cry with you. I will love you faithfully through good times and bad ones. Today, I give you my hand, my heart, my soul, and my love from this day forward.” She said.

I couldn’t stop the tears, as she couldn’t stop hers either. The preacher told her she could place the ring on my finger and I felt complete when she did. Felt complete and whole standing here and I no longer felt alone.

“As you wear these rings, whether you are together or apart for even just a moment, may these rings be a constant reminder of the promises you are making today.  You have shown your love and affection by joining hands and have made promises of faith and devotion to each other.  You have sealed these promises by the giving and receiving of the vows.  You shall no longer walk alone.  As your hearts will be your shelter and each other’s arms will be your home.”

There was a pause and he closed his little book and looked out across the chapel.

From this day forward, may your days be good and beautiful upon this earth.  It is my privilege by the authority vested in me by the state of Oklahoma to pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride.”

I thought he’d never say those words! I’d never kissed her in front of most of the people here or this many, but I lifted the veil anyway and I was glad those heels put her close to me, feeling her soft lips against mine was the best feeling in the world, it even topped the first time I got to kiss her. Why? Because this time she was my wife, this kiss was the first we’d shared as being husband and wife.

I know people were clapping and cheering. I pulled back and wiped the tears off her face and she did the same to me before we turned and faced everyone.

“I now present Mr. and Mrs. Zachary Walker Hanson.”

Another round of clapping and we began started down the steps carefully and the long walk to the hallway, passing family and friends as we walked. We headed right to where she’d gotten ready while the six that were part of the wedding went left, we would all meet the photographers back in the church for official wedding photos. Her brothers were staying as well and my brothers, sisters and parents were going to wait also.

Once the door was closed I got to really see that dress.

“When you said it was perfect, you did not kid.”

She looked at me and smiled; she then reached for her phone and took a photo of the butterfly, which was still perched on my shoulder. She then went and opened the window and the blue butterfly left my shoulder and flew out the window.

“That was…odd.” I said.

“No, a blessing from someone who couldn’t be here in person, I’m sorry if I scared you when the music kept playing, I didn’t mean too.”

“I was about to run down the aisle and see what was up. Was everything ok?”

“It hit me this morning that truthfully it never was David I wanted, it was my mother. Apparently butterflies were her thing and that one flew in as I was freaking out and just landed on the door, when we came in it rode on George’s shoulder. It could be a pure random thing but I choose to believe it was her giving me her blessing.”

I smiled and brought her close to me again. “I’m sure she would have been very happy for you.”

“I’m sure she would be too. Now, kiss me like you wanted to.”

I couldn’t resist that one and I did, knowing we didn’t have enough time for anything else though.
