Chapter 79- The Talk
POV: Emily
Word Count: 5636
December 18, 2010; Saturday
My brother’s were all in town and headed to me, I wasn’t sure if I wanted this conversation now but I didn’t have much choice, they had been patient long enough. Casey and Zac weren’t too happy with me at the moment; I was sending Christina and the two girlfriends with them to shop for a while.
“Please, I’ll do anything under the sun you want. Please, don’t send me.” Zac said.
I looked at him. “I don’t need you here Zac, you know they won’t hurt me and you’ve already told me what you want left out. I need someone to take the girls out for a while so we can talk. Casey is going with you so you won’t be alone.”
“Christina is going to drive me insane and you know that.”
I tilted my head to the side and just looked at him, he knew very well that I’d be fine with them here and it was already arranged they’d be here alone while Sophia, Nadine, and Christina went with Zac and Casey to shop for a bit.
“Unless she puts her hands where they don’t belong, I am sure you’ll be fine.”
Casey came down dressed and ready to go but eyed Zac’s pajamas. “No way! Your ass is going with me! You are not sending me to the mall with three women!”
“Can’t we just like drop them off?”
I punched his arm lightly. “No! You love shopping and besides you can knock out more from our list. We’ve gotten your parents nothing yet, we don’t have half of your siblings done and we have nothing for the babies yet. Go wild Zac, I am sure Christina would absolutely love being able to pick out River something. Couple of hours is all I’m asking Zac. It’s the least you can do.”
Casey leaned on his shoulders. “If she didn’t take the anything under the sun offer, I think you’re pretty screwed. Besides, it won’t be that bad.”
Zac turned his head slowly and stared at him. “You haven’t met Christina have you?”
The doorbell rang and I got it, thankfully just Craig and Christopher. “Um, Christina and George just pulled up Zac; you might want to put something on beside that.” Craig smirked.
Zac sprinted up the steps then and Casey laughed and greeted them. Craig was the only non-brother allowed today and only because he would murder me if I didn’t tell him. It didn’t take long before they were all present and after greetings and hugs Zac and Casey left with the three girls, of which Christina informed Casey point blank he was riding in the back. Zac just looked at me but left anyway.
“What sordid promise did you make to accomplish that?” Aaron asked.
“Nothing but he offered me anything under the sun to get out of it.”
“Is Christina that bad?” George asked.
“Sometimes, yes. She has improved though since you spoke with her. Thank you for that.”
“You’re welcome, so it’s not often you bring us all here and then ship everyone else off.” He replied.
“I know, have a seat at the table. Drinks?”
After getting 6 different drinks I sat down with the one I’d mixed before they arrived but I saw Craig look at me.
“Emmy, are you drinking at ten am?”
“Indeed I am, but you’ll just have to deal with it.”
Jason sighed heavily. “This isn’t going to be a pleasant conversation is it?”
“Nope. In fact if you want to spike those drinks there is a bottle of vodka and rum on the counter.”
None of them got up to get the alcohol but I was sure before this conversation ended they would. I finished my drink quickly and even fixed a second one before looking at each of them.
“So, how have you all been? Everything ok?”
A round of yeahs, mostly fine, some updates and then it was back to me. It was a good way to start the conversation, hesitation and procrastination. It shouldn’t feel this hard to tell them what happen, to tell them what they’d done. Yet, I was finding it hard to do.
“Emily?” George asked.
“I guess I should stop waiting huh?”
“Pretty much, I’m not sure Zac can handle three women and Casey for very long without needing make up to cover the redness.” Craig said.
“Good point. So, you’ve all asked about four dozen times what happened in July and I haven’t said anything about it. Not what happen, not what was said, not anything at all.”
“We called Zac a lot too but he wouldn’t say anything about it either.” Aaron said.
“He was respecting my wishes actually. As of right now the only people that know the entire story is myself, the police, Zac and Casey. We only told Casey because the nightmares would have scared him otherwise. I choose not to tell anyone else. I just…at that moment I couldn’t really decipher everything in my own head. Everything was like scrambled eggs; I wasn’t even sure how I felt about the events.”
Six pretty irritated sets if eyes looked at me. “Casey knew?” Jason asked.
“Again, he was told only because he lives here. Zac and I both had nightmares for weeks when we got home, they started in the hospital. Casey has spent his fair share of nights trying to calm us down. Added, it gave Zac someone to talk too, which helped him.”
“But not you?” Joshua asked.
I looked at him. “I shut down, literally. I didn’t talk about anything that happened. I told the police with Zac and Casey in the room and after that I didn’t utter anything about it. Everything was fine or silence when I was asked. Believe me; you can verify that with Zac. He tried I just wouldn’t say anything. But he figured out how to break through the wall that I’d put there.”
“Do we even want to know how?” Christopher asked.
“There was some yelling and screaming, it needed to be done. We then told Taylor and Natalie a small portion one piece of information, only because it was relevant. They’ll hear the rest after Christmas.”
No one said anything just let that kind of sink in.
I finished the second drink and poured a third, straight vodka. Zac would appreciate my drunken state later on.
I couldn’t really choose one to look at so I chose a spot somewhere behind George’s head, who was sitting at the other end of the table.
“Zander wouldn’t tell me anything about you, did you ask him not too?” Aaron asked.
“I did. He doesn’t know everything either only the medically related side of the story.”
“So, what happen?” Craig asked.
Telling them about the first few days was simple, really the only things that occurred was Adam hitting me, telling me no one cared, telling me Zac was with Layla when he wasn’t, taking my insecurities with things and twisting them, I didn’t give them details of the conversation because Zac didn’t want them all to know about him and Casey and I didn’t want the three older ones to know just how my sex life was. They didn’t look too pleased that David had held me, given the number and let him. Retelling of the conversation David and I had Tuesday was hard.
“He said that about Mom?” Jason asked.
“Yes. Believe me Jason he told me about every man she slept with before they met and after and every woman. He didn’t even spare me the details so I assumed he beat them out of her.”
“Did he seriously comment on your personal preference for shaving or not?” Joshua asked.
“Yes. Actually thought it was something Zac made me do. Too much information there and I’m not saying what I do or don’t do because really it’s none of your business.”
Six sets of hands went up. “We don’t want to know anyway, just how would he know?”
I looked at Jason confused and so did Craig. “Dude, she said Adam stripped her Monday. She was sitting in the chair naked. How else would he know?”
He seemed to straighten up as he realized how he would know; I gave them a few moments before moving forward with the story.
“Wait! Mom was giving you up?” George asked.
“That was her plan yes, but David found out and stopped her.”
They remained quiet until I reached the part where I said he killed her and even if that punch hadn’t worked he would have anyway. None of them asked but George was the first one to reach for the bottle of Vodka, so I slid it to him. I gave him a few minutes before I finished the story, how he locked me up, how the rag was forced into my mouth and how Adam was told to make me stay there. They didn’t interrupt so I finished out Tuesday.
“Any questions?”
Everyone shook their heads. I had left out the part about Adam asking about the video as well. I finished Wednesday and Thursday, leaving out that David had beaten Zac as well. Again, he didn’t want them to know about that. I did say what he told Zac, because I had heard every word. Again there were no question and I sat there for a long time, finished the third drink and considered a fourth but I got a soda instead.
“Emily?” Christopher asked.
I looked at him. “Yeah?”
“Are you ok? You’ve been quite for a long time now.”
“Friday wasn’t pleasant.”
“It’s ok Emmy, we’re here for you. We won’t be mad at you.”
“I know.”
The first part of the day was easy and then I got to the point where David walked to me and I wished Zac was there to nudge me because I was afraid I wouldn’t say it. It was like Craig knew because he moved his chair beside me and moved my head.
“I get the feeling what is bothering you is that it’s your dad and there your brothers. I’m not your brother Emily; I’m your friend so why don’t you tell me what happen?”
Crazy as it sounds, that was the problem. It didn’t matter that he had said it, he was their father.
“He was mad when he came downstairs, I could see it in his eyes. It was never pleasant when you saw that look. He came to me, completely ignored Zac. He leaned in and told me that my mother was indeed a whore and that he had proof, he then shoved a piece of paper in my face.”
“What was on the paper?” Craig asked.
“DNA results, but I didn’t believe them. I thought he was just trying to make me feel bad. But then he started saying things to me, what he’d wanted to do.”
I saw Craig hold up his hand and I started to look but he stopped me. “Nope, right here. It’s just you and me Emily. Look at me. What did he tell you?”
“He said he never wanted me that had I not been a girl, had I not been born then he wouldn’t have had to kill his best pet. He told me that the only reason he’d left me alone was because I was his and he didn’t want some other man touching me like that. He said he never planned on letting me leave home until Adam offered to train him a new wife, his payment would be me.”
“That’s good Emily. What else?”
I looked at him and felt the tears fall down my face and he wiped them away. “It’s ok Emily.”
I started to shake my head, I hadn’t made it through this part without Zac and I wasn’t sure I could now, fuck I should have listened to him. But I took a deep breath and let it out slowly, following Craig’s pattern.
“That’s it, calm down and talk to me. You know I won’t be mad at anything you say for any reason.”
I did know that.
“He started telling me what he thought about all those years I was home. How he took the pictures because he couldn’t actually be in the room with me. He knew about Adam’s sexual attraction to me then but he chose to ignore it because it gave them something to talk about.”
“What?” Craig asked.
“They would share fantasies about me, what they wanted to do and how. But, they couldn’t physically do it because I was so young and I was his kid. Zac tried to get his attention, distract him but he ignored him. He um…he…I…”
Everything seemed to blur together at that moment, I knew what he said. I felt warm hands brush across my cheeks again.
“You’re doing great.”
I looked at him, remembered how he was when I was 16 and lost. How scattered I’d been then as well. How hurt I’d been that he’d want me to be with Adam and that he didn’t care about my feelings.
“Can you hum that tune?”
“Yes. Whatever you need me to do.”
The tune was similar to what my mother had sung apparently, just not as fast and I let the melody sink in for a moment.
“He ran his finger down my neck and I jerked away from him. He hit me in the left side, Zac screamed. He let my hands down and pulled me in some, told me he’d always wanted to fuck me until I couldn’t move, he’d wanted to do that since I was ten. He moved my hand down to prove how turned on he was. Zac screamed again and this time he turned and looked at him.”
I’d heard a gasped and turned briefly but Craig directed my head back quickly and I seen a sharp look to the side.
“Go on.” He said. He then resumed his humming.
“He threw me down on the floor in front of the cages and I tried to get back in mine, safety. But he hit me then pulled me back out into the floor. I tried to stop him, screamed and I bite him once drawing blood. But he hit me hard in the abdomen and I felt pain and then he slammed my head against the floor. I remember seeing Zac and the concerned expression on his face but then I closed my eyes.”
“What happen next?”
“I came to in Adam’s arms and I pushed away, Adam left me alone and I remember hurting. I went to the bathroom and I could feel pain. I didn’t want to believe what he’d done, just told myself it was Adam. I went to my chair and Zac started to come to me but Adam asked if he wanted me to hurt more and he said no, so he went back to the cage. Adam tied my hands tightly and told me not to fight it and I was confused.”
“Did you feel like you’d been raped?”
“Yes.”
“Continue.”
“I can’t...” I said.
“Yes you can Emily. Remember when you told me about Adam the first time?”
I looked at him and realized he didn’t understand that it wasn’t Adam this time.
“Adam didn’t rape me Craig. David did. Adam wasn’t in the basement and he came back after I was awake and did it again. I just looked at Zac, pretended I was dead already. I didn’t want to believe it; I didn’t want to be there. I wondered why Zac looked so mad, he bite through the ball gag. It wasn’t until I looked that I noticed the blood on his thighs and felt it. I just…I crawled to my cage and curled up because I was hurting and I didn’t know what else to do. My dad…I didn’t...I couldn’t…I wanted to die.”
Craig pulled me completely out of my chair and into his lap, putting me facing the kitchen and I don’t think he’d ever held me that tightly before. I heard something slam into the floor and moments later the front door slammed shut.
I turned and found that two of my brother’s were missing, George and Christopher were both gone. A moment later Aaron got up and ran down the hallway, Jason and Joshua were extremely pale. Joshua finally got up and ran up-stairs and Jason didn’t make it out of the kitchen, opting for the trash can. Craig held me tightly, kept humming. I sat there for what felt like a long time before I felt another set of hands and it was Aaron.
“Go find Chris and George please. I’ve got her.”
It had been a long time since I’d sat in Aaron’s lap but he was fine and didn’t mind wiping the tears away and he didn’t say a word. Eventually Jason and Joshua returned to the room and before long Craig returned with the other two.
I didn’t move from Aaron’s lap, instead I found it was ok in this spot.
“So, he um…Dad raped you twice while you were there?” Christopher asked.
“Yes. Zac confirmed that it was him the first time as well.”
“Is that why you didn’t want anyone to know?”
“Yes and no. I just…there’s more to the story.”
“I wish I could get my hands on him.” George said.
“Ok, so did anything else happen after the second time?” Aaron asked.
“No. Adam gave us the dinner drink and we were caged. But I wasn’t feeling very well and I couldn’t keep it down. Um, Zac got worried the next morning when he showered us because the water was red from the blood.”
I watched George as he clenched his jaws and his hands were white on the table.
“He gave us another drink and I was hurting too bad to keep it down. Basically my entire abdomen was cramping and it felt horrible. I thought that he’d hit me where the bullet had and that had done something. I just…emotionally and mentally I shut down and I wouldn’t talk to Zac even thought he tried. I just…I feared they would hear me and hit me. Zac said that when he saw the red water and then again at another time that he felt something was wrong. So, he investigated his cage and said he noticed metal clips held it together. He used his shoulders and back to bend them and get out. Adam came down and they fought.”
They were all looking at me.
“Adam and Zac were fighting and they had a gun which Zac got out of Adam’s hand and he rolled them away from the gun. But Adam slammed him into the rack of stuff and it made noise, so David came downstairs. He glanced at me and I was still in the cage he started toward Zac and Adam. I knew if he got Zac away from Adam then we’d never get out. So, I did what I thought was best and that was getting the gun and shooting him. I wasn’t aiming for his spine I just wanted to slow him down. The sound was loud and vibrated off the walls, but it gave Zac the chance to get Adam out of the way. He hit his head on the pole and then came to me. He got the gun from my hand and laid it beside him but I saw Adam getting up. When I backed away from Zac he must have known why, because he picked up the gun and turned. Adam said he was going to kill us both so Zac killed him.”
The looks were stunned.
“You shot Dad?” Aaron asked.
I looked at him. “Yes. He was going to stop Zac and if he did that; odds are they would have killed him.”
“You mean…Zac shot Adam? As in Zac killed him?” Craig asked.
“Yes. He had too! If he hadn’t he would have killed us. He would have killed me and as Casey pointed out every violent act Zac has done was because the guy threatened me.”
“I’m just…wow.” Jason said.
“Maybe I shouldn’t pick on him as much as I do.” Craig said.
I looked at Aaron and Christopher and the others.
“After they were down Zac got me out of the basement, called the police. Called you and his parents and I made him call Casey. They had to sedate me at the house and I woke up in the hospital Sunday.”
I got up out of Aaron’s lap, let him return to the seat he was in and I got a glass of water and sat back down where I had been.
“You sounded very upset though. Was it when you kind of realized what had happened?” Joshua asked.
“No. When I woke up Zander was checking on Zac and he told him it was better that Zac tell me. So he left and Zac let me know Adam was dead and David was paralyzed. But then he told me why I was bleeding so much, when David hit me in the abdomen he dislocated the placenta and I miscarried. I was five weeks at the time that was why I was screaming and it was part of the reason I shut down at that point. He could have killed me in the same way he killed our mother. If he had ruptured the placenta I would have died in that basement beside Zac. Nothing he could have done. There was no permanent damage. Zander knew about it and he was asked not to say anything. We told Natalie and Taylor that we miscarried when she had River the 10th because being there all that time was, it was…heartbreaking.”
“You were pregnant when they took you? Did you know?” Christopher asked.
“I was and I didn’t know. I mean sure I wasn’t feeling that great but I was attributing that to the stress and long days. When he hit me I miscarried, although they did say there was a chance that it was just a natural miscarriage but Zander felt it was the hits.”
George had frowned and didn’t look to happy.
“George? What is it?”
“We weren’t going to tell anyone until Christmas…Christina is pregnant we found out a few weeks ago.”
“That’s good news! Why would you look so sad?”
“Because you should be expecting now and Dad made sure you weren’t. That bastard. I know you and Zac both want children and he took one from you.”
I poured myself another drink and drank half of it before I looked at them.
“David isn’t my father.”
“We don’t blame you for disowning him Emily. Believe me we all have and after learning what he did to you, he’s definitely dead to me.” Aaron said.
“No. I mean David really isn’t my father. Biologically he’s not. It’s why he went ahead and raped me in the first place, because that was the only thing stopping him. When I was calm enough I requested the FBI run a DNA test, I wanted to be sure. They told me in November that he wasn’t my father.”
“So, mom did cheat on him?” Jason asked.
“Yes.”
I looked at Aaron and Christopher. “I’m not the only one that doesn’t belong to him. They requested your DNA as well, right?”
“Yes. They said it was for exclusion purposes.” Joshua said.
“I am sure that was a legitimate reason too. But, they did it because I asked about it.”
“What are you saying Emily?” George asked.
“You, Jason and Joshua are his sons, but Aaron, Christopher, and I belong to someone else.”
Aaron and Christopher both looked at me.
“What the fuck are you talking about Emily?” Aaron asked.
I got up and got the paper from the counter and laid it down for them.
“They told me in November but they didn’t tell me about the two of you. I wasn’t going to tell you because I couldn’t even handle that I’d called him Dad but it helped me past the rape part. I asked them after River was born if they could tell me about anyone else and they sent that to me. Lab results from a well known, well respected lab. It confirms that George, Joshua and Jason belong to David and the three of us don’t but we do have the same father.”
They weren’t taking the news very well, Christopher was mad and so was Aaron.
“Were you ever going to fucking tell us?”
“No. But when I decided I wanted to find him Zac said you both deserved to know and that you had a right to know he wasn’t.”
It was Aaron that got up and left that time and Christopher just sat there. George got up and went after Aaron.
“Kind of wish I wasn’t related to him.” Jason said.
It was thirty minutes before George returned with Aaron and they sat down.
“There’s more…” I said.
“How could there be more?” Aaron asked.
I took a deep breath. “Our dad was here at the house Wednesday. He saw the news and came looking for me, he went to the studio because it’s public and Isaac called Zac. He came over that night.”
Christopher just stared at me and Aaron closed his eyes and then looked at me.
“Why would you not tell us this? What the hell Emily?”
“I wasn’t handling the news very well myself. I called David Dad for 25 years, despite everything he done to me and to you guys, we all called him Dad. I really didn’t know if either of you could handle it. I knew you’d be mad at me but I didn’t plan on finding this man until River was born. When I held him for the first time I thought about our dad. I wondered if he even knew about us, if he’d been able to hold us. I told Zac I wanted to find him somehow and he told me that you two needed to know regardless to how you felt about it. I first called the FBI to confirm you weren’t David’s. The paper he had said we weren’t his but I didn’t believe his.”
“Would you have told us if you hadn’t looked for him?”
“Yes. I shut down and didn’t talk to anyone about anything that happened until recently. Zac made me talk. I am sure he wouldn’t have let me go to much longer without telling you. I only waited because I planned to tell you all what happen and it was easier to do that at once.”
It got quiet again, minutes ticked by as they all digested that news, major news to everyone.
“You said he found you and you met him, do you believe him?” Christopher asked.
“Yes. He knew a lot about us all he met Mom after the Jason and Joshua were born. From what he told me David had routine surgery for a hernia and they messed up and did a vasectomy too which Mom never told him about. He said he didn’t know you and Aaron were his until she was pregnant with me. She told him then you two were also his.”
“I’m obviously going to want proof of this.”
“I told him to expect it and he said he would gladly do whatever we wanted.”
“So, who is this man?” Aaron asked.
“His name is Aaron Christopher Erickson, Ace for short. Mom apparently used his names for you two and he chose Emily for me. He’ll be 50 this year on my birthday, I was born on his. He said that he loved Mom and he was trying to get her to leave David but she wouldn’t. He didn’t know David killed her and he got updates from someone named Jeremy, although his updates weren’t always accurate. He didn’t know David was beating us all. He did try to get custody when I was 3 and again when I was 5 but David refused the DNA test.”
“Ace?” George asked.
“Yes. He knew all of us and he spent time with you all.”
“I remember a man named Ace. He was super nice. Mom said he was her tutor and we couldn’t tell Dad. Not that we cared, we got to play when we were there.” George said.
“What did he look like?”
“Now that you mention it he kind of favors you. Tall, thin, brown hair and grey eyes.”
“Same man that showed up.”
“If he agreed to the DNA test then I’ll be glad to take it, but I won’t get close until I know for sure.” Aaron said.
“I don’t expect less and I’m not trying to get close to him until I know.” I said.
“What’s he like?”
“Well, he’s not sure about Zac but he’s been a pilot for over 20 years, he’s sweet as far as I can tell, from what he’s told me he loved mom quite a bit. He’s also gay and he’s been with his partner for over ten years, they live in Oklahoma City, he moved out here eight years ago. His partner is an accountant and his name is Nathaniel.”
“He’s gay but he was with mom?” Aaron asked.
“He told me after she died he tried 1 other woman and it didn’t feel the same. She was the only woman he loved and after her there was no one else. Dude, he was 15 when he met Mom; you were born while he was 16.”
“I did the math Emmy; I know how old he was.”
We sat and talked about the events a bit more, answered questions they had and talked about what to do next. I gave them permission to tell Nadine, Sophia and Christina but requested they not say who actually killed Adam, I was fine if they told them I shot David though. Zac got back at 4:30; they had been gone like 6 hours and he looked completely frazzled. He went right up-stairs as soon as he walked in. Casey came in afterwards and the girls followed.
“Did you not buy anything?” I asked.
“It’s in the truck.” Casey said.
“Are you not bringing it inside?”
“We will in a bit.”
I looked at the girls. “What did you three do?”
“We’ve worn them both completely out.” Christina said.
“Ok. I was doing roast tonight but forgot to put it on so how does meatloaf sound?”
“Perfect, would you like us to help?”
“Sure.” I said.
After an hour Zac and Casey had the other guys help unload the truck and I seen why Zac was frazzled, I think between them they finished our entire list.
“Babe did you leave me anything to get?”
He looked at me. “Everyone is covered but you are wrapping it all. I even bought plenty of paper, bows, ribbons, and tags.”
I kissed him. “Is that my punishment for making you go?”
“Oh no, you owe me big time for this one.”
I smiled. “I’ll be looking forward to that.”
We had dinner about 6:30 and they stayed a while before heading home about 8:45 and I closed the door after letting George and Christina out and when I turned around both Zac and Casey were standing there.
“You are evil.” Casey said.
“I am not!”
“Yes, you are. You sent us to the mall with them. Nadine and Sophia weren’t bad but god damn Christina plastered herself to Zac and the other two plastered to me.”
“I got to talk to them alone though and it was a good thing. Twice they had to be retrieved George and Christopher both ran at the rape and Aaron bolted when I told him about the DNA test. I didn’t need three women screeching and apologizing over the miscarriage. Guys, Christina is pregnant. She would have been a blubbering mess.”
It didn’t do anything to the looks they were giving me and it didn’t seem they were going to take any pity, they were serious. I owed them something.
“Ok, what do you want? Well, besides me wrapping everything, this is fine because I’ve seen your wrapping.”
Zac looked at Casey for a moment before smiling, funny I should probably feel afraid of this or at least slightly nervous about their plans but I found I was looking forward to whatever devious thing they came up with. Casey just turned and went up-stairs while Zac came to me and I didn’t expect to be tossed over his shoulder, which I mean the view of his ass was nice.
I reached down and grabbed his ass, squeezed. “This is actually kind of nice.”
He giggled but flipped the lights off downstairs as he carried me up-stairs. Watching his ass as he walked up the steps was quite awesome, being flung on the bed however was a little different. Where he went to work on getting rid of clothes but I saw Casey returning to the room with handcuffs and I wasn’t sure about that and I was sure Zac felt the tension.
“Remember what you told me? You trust us, playtime and then you’re out.”
“I remember.”
“Good.”
I let Casey attach them and it was weird but it was nice too. They may have classified it as punishment but I found nothing bad about the tickling, teasing, or the new toy that they’d apparently picked up which was a vibrating tongue that actually went on the tongue. I didn’t mind nor care about anything they did and I was fine when they settled in with me to sleep later.
