Desire - Heading (small)
Chapter 83- Sickness
POV: Zac / Emily
Word Count: 4195
Warning: TIME SKIP!

April 4, 2012; Wednesday
-Zac-
We were in the studio about to record the final touches for the member’s EP for this year, but my mind was elsewhere.

“Zachary! Pay attention!” Taylor yelled.

I looked up from the drum set and just stared at him. It was far safer to stare than say what was on my mind.

He threw his hands up. “Look, I know you’re worried about Ems, but Natalie promised she would call the moment they left the doctor’s office. Her appointment was only an hour ago, she could be waiting. We however need to get this done!”

“That is quite easy for you to say Taylor, your wife hasn’t been sick as hell for three weeks.”

“Natalie has been sick before Zac. I get it, you’re worried but if they had sent her to the emergency room or something we would know by now.”

“Natalie has never been this sick!” I yelled.

“Guys Please! Taylor, come on I am just as worried as Zac is. She’s been violently ill for three weeks Taylor and even Casey agreed she’s been sick as hell. Why don’t you call Natalie and see if there still at the doctor’s office?” Isaac asked.

Taylor looked at me and then Isaac, they were worried too and I could tell. But, they weren’t at the house with me and I’d even had Casey come stay with us because she was that sick. She couldn’t keep anything down, she had extreme dizzy spells, and even high fevers so I had asked Natalie or Nikki to drive her today, she didn’t need to be driving. Natalie agreed to take her and our mother had their children. Taylor got his phone and called and put it on speakerphone.

“Hey babe.” Natalie said.

“Hey Hun, nothing is wrong but we’re about to strangle Zac. Have you left the doctor’s office yet?”

“No. She went back on time but they drew blood and wanted to make sure her red and white counts were fine, we’ve been waiting on those. They just called her back again. We should be leaving pretty soon; do you want me to call when I get her home?”

Taylor looked at me. “Yes, Natalie. Please call Taylor or me.”

“Hey Zac, stop fretting it’s probably a super bad case of the flu, it’s been going around.”

“I know but she’s never been this sick before.”

“When we get to your house I will have her call you, I promise.” She said.

“Thanks.” I replied.

Taylor hung-up and I tried my damnest to focus, but I kept waiting for that call and they should have been home before now. Two hours crept by and I was beginning to get antsy again but the light beside the door blinked, no one else was here but us so Isaac walked over and opened it to see who it was. Natalie walked in and I looked at her confused.

“Emily is in the bathroom, she almost didn’t make it here.”

I dropped the set of drumsticks and left the room, I even ignored Taylor’s hand tossing, she was my wife and I didn’t give a damn what he thought at the moment. I knew which bathroom she would go too. I pushed the door open and found her standing at the sink washing her face off. She had lost like twenty pounds in the last few weeks and she looked pale. She was using the sink to steady herself as it was.

“Emily?”

“I was going home but I couldn’t make it. I basically commanded Natalie bring me here. I think...I’m just going to Casey’s until you leave.”

I walked to her and moved her to face me. “Did he say anything? A cause for why you’re so sick? This is deeper than the flu and you’ve been sick for weeks now.”

“Here is not the place to discuss it Zac; I didn’t even tell Natalie what they said.”

“Emily…” I said.

She smiled and wrapped her arms around me. “It’s not bad Zachary, I promise.”

“Then tell me what is wrong, why have you been so sick? Did he at least give you something to help you get better?”

She got my hand and led me to our office where she closed the blinds and locked the door. She normally only did that when she was pissed off or wanted us naked, given I knew she wasn’t pissed off at anyone and her being this sick, I doubted she wanted to get naked.

She sat me down on the sofa and sat down in my lap, she then got something from her pocket and handed it to. It was wrapped in a brown napkin and I didn’t question it, I just unwrapped it and then stared at it.

“I didn’t want to tell everyone just yet.”

I looked at the test in my hand; I had seen many of them before but never one that meant so much to me. The others were moms, Natalie’s, or Nikki’s but this was not from them.

“You’re pregnant?”

“Yes. He did a blood test to confirm and a sonogram, we are just shy of 12 weeks. So conception would have been when you come back from Fool’s Banquet. I’m sure you remember that.”

“I do.”

I was stunned. The plus side is that the last time we were with Casey was last year, so no question about paternity.
“This is no Aprils fool’s joke right? This is ours and not some old test of theirs?”

She smiled and leaned in some. “No Zachary. This is real. You and I are pregnant. The doctor said it wasn’t uncommon for some women to experience such extreme sickness during pregnancy and it could last for the first trimester and should be tapering off. He did give me a prescription for the nausea that is safe to take. This is happening. Would you like to know the due date?”

So many times I had heard that from Natalie, Nikki, My mother, our cousins and other people. But this date was important because my life would change, our lives would change.

“When is our baby due?”

She smiled and god it was so beautiful, she’d not done that in weeks. “October 22.”

I could not have heard that right. “Our baby is due on my birthday?”

“Yes. Although that is 40 weeks and it’s possible he or she would be here before or after because this is the first. I um asked about the chances of a miscarriage and he said he sees no reason to worry but I wanted to wait before we told everyone.”

“Technically our second but I understand.”

I couldn’t stop the tears, I couldn’t help it. It was ok in this situation though. She laid her head over and while she cried with me it was a mixture of joy, sadness, and relief. She rose up first and wiped my face off.

“After the 24th we can tell everyone. Aside from being slightly dehydrated he said everything looked fine.”

We both heard Nikki’s voice in the hallway and heard Isaac calling down the hallway so we paused.

“I think I can agree with that because we need to be sure. Although, I don’t think we have to worry.”

“I agree but I do think we should tell Isaac and Taylor along with their wives. I mean Natalie looked terrified when I demanded she come here and let’s face it, Taylor and Isaac have been very patient with us both.”

“They’ve been as worried as me about you, well, ok, maybe not as worried.”

“Yeah, no one can reach your level of worry.”

“What about your brother’s, are you making them wait until the 24th as well?”

“Yeah, I mean Aaron’s the only one that knows how sick I’ve been. So…let’s go tell the four here and then we can plan something for everyone else.”

I pulled her tightly to me. “I want to hear you say it one more time…”

She kissed me and laid her forehead against mine. “You and I are pregnant; our baby is due October 22. You are going to be a father.”

I let those words wash over me and loved the feeling I got. Loved hearing her say those words. We got up and walked to the studio where they were all sitting, she seemed ok for the moment. The four of them looked at us.

“Flu? Cold? What is it?” Ike and Tay asked.

She looked at me and because I couldn’t find words I just held up the test, the four of them had seen plenty of them to know what it meant.

“You’re pregnant?” Taylor asked.

“I’m just shy of 12 weeks.” Emily said.

I didn’t expect the hug from Isaac or Taylor; I mean an hour ago they wanted to rip my head off. However, Taylor’s hug was crushingly tight.

“Jesus Taylor! My ribs don’t need to be broken!”

“Are you kidding me? We’ve been wondering when the two of you were going to give in and have a baby!” he said.

He went to hug Emily but she held her hands against his chest. “You can hug me, but if you squeeze me that hard I’m liable to throw up on you.”

He nodded and gave her a much gentler hug.

“I should have known.” Natalie said.

Nikki gave us both a hug as well. “So happy for you both.”

“So, we are going to wait to tell everyone else just to make sure we’re past the miscarriage point. Although the doctor is pretty sure there is no risk for that. It’s only a few weeks, end of April. We’ll do a big dinner at the house and then tell everyone.”

“So, the big question…when is our new niece or nephew due to arrive?”  Nikki asked.

Emily smiled. “The official due date is October 22.”

Four stunned faces looked at us.

“You have to be kidding.” Taylor said.

“Nope. Although being as this is our first could be earlier or later.”

“That would be a great birthday present.” Natalie said.

“Honestly, I wouldn’t ask for anything else.” I said.

“Ok…now that you know what is wrong with your wife and that’s it’s partially your fault, can we please get this song done?” Isaac asked.

Natalie, Nikki, and Emily all giggled but Emily looked at me. “I was going to wait until you got home really, but I couldn’t make it. I might be able to now.”

“Are you sure? You know Casey’s at home.”

“Naa, that poor man has dealt with me enough the last year. He deserves a break.”

“Ok.”

I gave her a hug and handed the test to her. I walked with her and Natalie to the car and watched them leave.

I was going to be a father!

We got back to work and finished the final touches and finished the song, they were content and I was fine because I knew she wasn’t dying nor had some parasite or something. She was pregnant. Knowing the cause helped me.

I stopped by the flower shop on my way home and picked up a dozen multi-colored roses, her favorites. The last year had been so pleasant. The tour had gone very well both in the states and outside the states. Velma proved to be a valuable asset on the tour and she quickly became one of Emily’s close friends. It was good she had female friends here, but I wish she had more than a few to talk too. Wish she had someone with the same experiences, not that she talked much about them.

The house had gone up fairly quickly once the weather had warmed up and we moved into our new home in August during a break. We left everything but our bedroom set with Casey, because we had a lot more room here and we could go with furniture that was a bit larger. Our dining room table could be expanded to accommodate my entire family with a few extra chairs, perfect for Christmas time.

Nathaniel and her father had assisted in decorating the house but we kept our own style, she gave me complete control over the music room on the third floor and I handed her control over our bedroom and the main floor. We had gone with five bedrooms and left room to expand is we needed too, we didn’t have any set number of kids that we wanted, but the extra rooms would be valuable for holidays when her brothers came out or if they visited any other time.

I made it home at 4:30 and found Emily asleep on the sofa so I put the flowers in a vase and sat them where she’d see them and then I went to the kitchen. We had designed this together much in the same fashion as our old kitchen, clean lines and simple. We hadn’t taken nearly as long to unpack though, Casey and her father was here to help. It didn’t mean we hadn’t managed to break in every room in the house though.  I kept dinner light and she was surprised when she woke up.

“You cooked, you didn’t have too.”

“I wanted too.”

“Thank you for the flowers.”

“Anytime.”

We sat down and ate dinner but she didn’t even make it an hour before she was in the bathroom and I was holding back her hair again. How the hell could she have a healthy pregnancy throwing everything up?

“Few more weeks this should go away.” She mumbled.

“I don’t think this is normal, I’ve never seen anyone this sick.”

“Me either and I asked Dad about the ones Mom had. Easy peasy. He said she rarely got sick.”

“Maybe it will go away soon.”

“I hope so. Dinner was good though.”

I laughed. “I doubt it tasted that great coming back up.”

“Eh, it wasn’t that bad.”

I got a rag and she wiped her face off, we laid down about ten but twice she was back in the bathroom.

April 5, 2012: Thursday     -Emily-

Even though I felt like throwing up and sleeping, I went in anyway. I resigned myself to the office because I needed to catch up on some paper work and re-schedule people because I couldn’t really do anything in the warehouse. I spent much of the morning in the office and the bathroom. I would be so grateful when this phase passed. I mean really, wasn’t I supposed to be able to eat whatever I wanted? At this moment, water didn’t even want to stay down! It was two when the three of them came in and sat down.

“I have done nothing, well except throw up all morning.”

They giggled some. “We know, but Taylor brought up a good point. You can’t lift boxes or unload trucks.” Isaac said.

I smiled and sat back. “I’m way ahead of you. I’ve rearranged the schedule to have Velma here more to help unload and to have Henry here as well. I also arranged for Stephanie to be a little more active and she’ll understand once there told. Velma will take up slack so Stephanie can do more here.  I mean really, someone will have to fill in for me for at least a week or two after the baby is born.”

Zac’s face seemed to light up when he heard the worn born, it was a big word. I just hoped we were both prepared for the changes that lay ahead of us.

“Well, we are taking this year pretty easy. Fool’s is done, the membership kit is almost done as well, and we won’t accept any outside the state events without your being OK with it. We’re going to try to work on a new album.” Taylor said.

“I was hoping that you wouldn’t tour.”

“Oh no, we’re not doing that.” Zac said.

Ike and Tay rolled their eyes at him. “I think he’s still above cloud twenty at this moment, you want to borrow my kids for the weekend and let him get a dose of reality?” Taylor asked.

“Pft, your three are angels they act just like you, calm and easy to handle. You think this baby will be that way?” I asked.

“What are you saying?” Zac asked.

I smiled at him. “Let’s just hope this baby takes his or hers behavior after me, you are quite often bad.”

It seemed like Taylor and Isaac finally realized something, they exchanged looks and then looked at Zac.

“Holy fuck! She has a point. There will be a mini-Zac running around. The world should be afraid!” Isaac said.

Zac shot him a go to hell look and then looked at me. “You are not some angel either.”

I smiled. “Never said I was and you’d be mindful of just how much I can say to let them know just how bad you are.”

“Alrighty then, anyways we’re done for the day and wanted to cover that which you already have. We’ll be around town and available.” Isaac said.

Taylor however looked curious but he didn’t ask which was wise. They left and Zac walked over and sat down.

“You know I’m not that bad.”

“I know, but personality wise you can’t say you’re not the more outgoing and loud member.”

“True. So, do we want to try to go to Georgia to tell your older brothers or bring them out?”

“Bring them out because Sheppard is 8 months now and I want to see my nephew again, plus Christopher and Aaron can see him and spend some time with him.”

“Ok. So, I’ll call and see if they can make it the weekend before Hanson Day, we’ll be busy.”

“April 28th? It’s a Saturday.”

“Works for me, you want to call and see if they can fly out?”

I was about to say yes when the overwhelming feeling hit me and I ran for the bathroom, I ran into Casey in the hallway and nearly threw up on him but managed to wait until I got to the bathroom. It was just a few minutes before Zac was beside me in the floor.

“Are you alright?” Casey asked.

“Yeah.” Zac said.

I was a little occupied with the toilet at the moment; I was beginning to really hate them.

“Did the doctor not find out what was wrong?” Casey asked.

I looked at Zac and nodded before the second round hit me harder.

I felt Zac’s hand on my back. “She’s pregnant and due on my birthday.”

“Emily is pregnant?” Casey asked.

“Yes. We’re figuring the weekend after Fool’s Banquet.”

I was aware that Zac had gotten up, could hear the water but when he squealed I looked up. Casey had picked him up and was spinning him around, I would have squealed too. I didn’t even think Casey could pick Zac up, let along that far off the ground! He sat him back down and Zac looked a little pale.

“Need me to move honey?”

“I’ll be fine. Damn Casey, when did you get strong enough to pick me up?”

“I’ve been working out. Emily’s next.”

“No Emily’s not. You can give me a hug but my feet stay on the damn ground, unless you want to be thrown up on.”

Zac came back with the rag and helped me up; Casey gave me a light hug.

“Congratulations, I know you two have been trying pretty actively for a while now.”

“Actively? Are you kidding me?” I asked.

He giggled. “I know for a fact you’ve had sex in every room in your house and you haven’t been home that much really! It’s cool though because it’s about time.”

“We’re not telling anyone else but Ike and Tay know and their wives. We’re actually planning this huge ass dinner with everyone to tell them at once.”

“Sounds like a plan to me.”

“Now…I can go call.”

We returned to the office and I called my three older brothers and invited them out, we had plenty of room now even for Sheppard. Christina was really good about keeping us informed on him, I got daily pictures and updates on him.

Learning that three of us were their half-siblings had changed nothing between us. George, Jason and Joshua still considered us their siblings and the fact that we didn’t share the same Dad meant nothing to them. In fact, they’d taken to Ace quite well also. Sheppard would be calling Ace grandpa. I wondered how he would take the news that his own daughter was having one.

We eventually went to Casey’s house, where he fixed us dinner. I warned him ahead of time that I may throw it back up and not to be offended.

“So, how does that change us?” he asked.

We were just chilling in the living room. “It doesn’t change anything between you and Zac and well, not with me either. But, really I just don’t feel up to sex and neither of you would find throw up sexy.”

“Are you sure it doesn’t change anything between us?” he asked.

I looked at Zac and then Casey. “Hey, I said it was fine as long as I was there. I can still watch and be fine. Just because I don’t feel like sex right now doesn’t mean I won’t later on either. It is totally possible for sex during a pregnancy.”

“It is?” they asked.

“Yes. Sex is encouraged in some cases. I’ve been told sex during pregnancy is quite awesome. I mean really, I’m just sick right now it can’t last the whole time. I am fully aware Zac has self control and that he’d be fine but I won’t mind if the two of you are together. I mean he hasn’t minded us when he was too tired and it’s not like we are always together now.”

“That is true; I mean we have ventured outside sometimes.” Casey said.

Zac smiled at me. “Yeah, I recall some very good memories on outside.”

“I bet you do.” Casey said.

“Zac…”

He looked at me innocently. “What?”

“Have I missed something?”

“No. Actually we did consider a female third person but Zac doesn’t feel comfortable with our limited choices and I don’t either.”

“Well, Velma is an option right? You trust her and she’s female.”

“She has a steady girlfriend now though and given she works there and all, it’s just not appropriate.”

“Well, you’re about to be parents maybe it’s time to settle down.”

Zac smiled. “Maybe. Didn’t you have a three-some with some guys not long ago?”

That was actually news to me, what the fuck and why had Zac not told me?

“Well, yeah…” Casey said.

“Who in the hell did you have a threesome with? Well, besides Zac and I.” I asked.

He glanced at Zac who said nothing and then he looked at me with this sheepish grin.

“You did not…”

“It’s not like they were going to ask Zac!” He said.

“You…You had sex my brother and my best friend?”

“Well…yeah. Craig approached me like June with it. He said they had been thinking about it and they were certain Zac would say no. I mean he’s Christopher’s brother now so they weren’t even going to consider asking him. They wanted someone they could trust.”

“I would have. For starters Christopher is my brother in law, that’s just…no. Added, I knew Emily wouldn’t want to watch because he was there. That’s like double no.”

“No…I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere near that.”

“They asked me and I said yes. It was…different. They didn’t really tell me I couldn’t say anything but none of us really said anything after that.”

I sat there stunned really. “Yet, you called us nymphs.”

“You are a nymph.” Zac said.

“You’re no better!”

Casey giggled. “You both are and I’ll even include myself. But, really I probably should have asked you before agreeing.”

I shook my head. “Casey, it’s your body and your life.  Just because there my brother and best friend doesn’t mean anything, unless you tricked one or both then we may have issues but it sounds like you were all on board there.”

“Yes. We were all on board.”

“Then I’m fine with it. I don’t want details though, so don’t even share with me.”

“I’m fine not knowing them as well, but anyway Ems its late do you want to head home?”

“I should be able to make it home.”

We got up and Casey gave us both a hug. “If you need anything let me know. I won’t even mind sitting with you if needed.”

“Thanks, but I should be relatively ok. The doctor believes this shouldn’t last long. But, we will want you there that weekend when we tell everyone.”

“Give me a time and date and I’ll be there.”

We left and I barely made it home but was fine when once I made it there. I would be so glad when this sickness ends and I can eat everything under the sun!
