Chapter 94 – Feeding Alexander
POV:  Zac
Word Count: 2735

November 14, 2012

Emily had gotten up with Alexander early; I was getting worried about her not sleeping enough. He was now just over three weeks now and she’d been cat napping pretty much the whole three weeks. She looked extremely tired. I got up at 9 and went downstairs and I fixed breakfast for us both, since she was napping with him.

The last three weeks have been insane for us both, but neither of us would change anything. There was one good thing, Casey was right. Alexander was taking after his mom with being calm, he rarely cried and usually it was only if I didn’t change him fast enough or if she wasn’t awake the moment he was hungry. At the moment there had only been a few occasions, so that was a good thing.

I woke her up so she could eat before he got up; we ate at the table while he slept. I was glad Emily could keep things down and was eating much better than she was before, also breast feeding him meant she had to rest, which Mom had been worried about considering our chosen careers.  I got him a little after ten to change him while she got some water, stinky diapers weren’t my strong point but I was getting better. I laid him on my legs while I waited for her.

“Your being daddy’s big boy this morning, you didn’t even fuss at me.” I said.

His eyes were still grey and he looked at me so I kept talking. Alexander had been a pumpkin for Halloween and it was his first group picture with all of Mom and Dad’s grandkids, which included Sheppard, George’s son. There was a pumpkin, princess, and ninja’s it was a priceless photo.

I felt Emily over my shoulder and a kiss to my cheek. “Are you seriously baby talking right now? Because that was cute as hell and I am sure your older brother’s will love the video I sent just them.”

“Hey! I talked to the others like that.”

“No you didn’t, not in that voice.”

“Well, there not mine.”

“That is true.”

I picked him up, he was already getting a little fussy and it was feeding time, again. I started to get up but she put her hand on my shoulder and stopped me. Then she held out a four ounce bottle with milk in it. I looked at her confused.

“I thought you weren’t going to use formula.”

“It’s not formula Zac; I managed to accomplish two things this week. I cannot guarantee you he’s going to like that nipple though. Velma and I compared something like 1000 of them I swear.”

“You like showed Velma your breast?”

She sat the bottle in my hand and then sat down on the sofa.

“Honestly, I ran into her at the mall Friday when I was out and you were at the studio. I was trying to adjust the shawl thing, my bra, my shirt, and him at the same time and he was screaming. She happen to realize who I was and came over and helped. It’s not the first boob she saw. When I told her why I was there she said she’d help me. Being as she had just helped me situate him so he could eat and saw everything I figured why not, I was honestly dreading asking your mom to help.”

“You mean I can feed him now?”

“Yes. In fact you get the next two feedings all to yourself. I plan to sleep. So go ahead Zac, feed your son before he starts screaming.”

Adjusting him wasn’t a problem and it was so different. He didn’t seem to really like the concept of not having her softness against his face; yeah he was definitely my son! She came over and adjusted him slightly and turns out that was his favorite position. After that he seemed to take the bottle just fine.

“All you have to do for the next one is warm it up, there in little pouches so just microwave some water and let it sit in the warm water for like a minute, pour it into the bottle and he can chow down. Mean time, I’m going to sleep.”

She took a photo before she laid down and she was not kidding, she was out the moment she laid down. I looked down at Alexander, eating happily and I just sat there and watched him and felt like I was really doing something. I burped him when he was done and he laid there looking at me. I got my own photo of him awake and looking around. He slowly drifted off and I just let him lay there in my lap, sure it would spoil him rotten but he was three weeks old and we didn’t always do this. About eleven-thirty Taylor called and I answered quickly so it wouldn’t wake either of them up.

“What’s up Tay?”

“Ike and I are on our way we didn’t want the gate alarm to scare you or Emily. Should be like thirty minutes, we have some things we want to discuss with you and you know we want to see Alexander too.”

“No problem, we’re home. I do need to go get dressed though unless you’re ok with the boxer look.”

“Dude you wore those when we recorded Up All Night, please put some clothes on.” Ike said.

“Fine.” I said.

I hung-up and took him with me, I got dressed right quick and then took him to the nursery and changed Alexander too. Taylor and Isaac had a gate code and a key to the house, so I didn’t worry about that. Emily was dressed anyway, but I did bring down the shawl. Changing him woke him up and he realized it was close to feeding time, so I went ahead and followed her direction on heating the milk some and used a clean bottle. I was sitting on the love seat feeding him when they came in and when Taylor saw Emily asleep he motion Ike to be quiet too. He had a package in his hands and sat it down on the loveseat with him.

“I don’t think you have to worry guys, she’s pretty much zonked.”

“Did you go to formula?” Ike asked.

“No. Apparently she used the pump this morning. She handed me a bottle at his last feeing and said there was one more and then she’d have to get up. When she’s sleeping a lot more than right now I can come in more.”

They both got photos and Taylor so badly wanted to upload it to Instagram, but he didn’t.

“Taylor, if you want I can cover him up more, we set up an interview with People when he’s six weeks. But, we would rather not share a lot.”

“You wouldn’t mind?”

“No. Just let me cover his face at least.”

Taylor got me his tiger blanket and he laid it up over my shoulder covering Alexander’s face and he got a picture, all you could see was his arms really, the rest of him was covered on the blue suit. He seemed so giddy to be uploading a photo and I shook my head.

“When will she be up?” Ike asked.

“About an hour I’ll wake her up, she didn’t leave me very many bottles so…He’ll want her.”

They smiled and gave me time to finish feeding and burping before Isaac took him. Taylor brought his laptop over and we went over the new merchandise ideas they had for the upcoming album and after some minor changes we agreed it was perfect. We decided to do the paintings again and talked about those until I had to wake Emily up. She was groggy for a good fifteen minutes but then went to the bathroom and got something in the kitchen. He gave her an extra thirty minutes I guess Uncle Taylor’s rocking was soothing but eventually hunger won out.

Neither of them looked at her when she got ready and I laid the blue and grey cover over her shoulder. She was clearly not quite awake yet but getting there. Taylor played the sound files while they were both awake.

“What’s in the box?” Emily asked.

“Oh Crap! It’s for Zac; it came to the studio Monday. I didn’t know what it was but the last time he ordered something and sent it there it was to keep you from seeing it.”

She looked at me. “I didn’t order anything, wasn’t expecting anything either.”

Isaac passed the box to me, it felt light. I opened the box but once the top was off I checked for a return address which wasn’t present.

“Who delivered this?”

“Mail carrier, why?” Taylor asked.

“I don’t think it was meant for me.”

Emily looked up and they looked at me as well. “What’s in the box?” she asked.

I could feel the red in my face. “Really, it can’t be for me.”

“How many people you know with your full name?” Ike asked.

I finally pulled the leather leash out of the box, attached to it was a chain. “Unless one of you thought this would be some sick joke then it can’t be for me.”

Taylor took it from me. “So, you’re saying you don’t own any kind of restraints?”

“I am not answering that question.”

He looked at it and then frowned. “Um, Zac your name is on this.”

He showed me and sure enough my full name and birthday were engraved in the leather band. Again I checked the box and nothing was there, no indication of who sent it or why. I looked at Emily.

“Is this something you did?”

“Sure Zac, I’m going to order a custom leash and send it to you at the studio where everyone can see it. No, that’s not something I did. We agreed long ago what our limits are and that goes beyond your comfort zone, we’re not property and we agreed never to do that. Second, even if I got something like that as a joke, I wouldn’t engrave your name on it.”

“Taylor? Isaac? Did you tell anyone about the things we told you?”

“No. You two didn’t mention using restraints and we wouldn’t have told anyone anyway.”

I took it from Taylor and put it in the box. “Maybe it’s just a fan that is playing some joke. I’ll contact the detective anyway and see if they can trace it. Probably nothing.”

Your new owner will pick you up Sunday…He’s assured me he has the capacity to keep you silent.

Emily was looking at me concerned and I smiled and moved on with the conversation, David told the police they never knew the man’s name and that it was how they preferred it. How they wanted it. But, it had been a long time since then there was no way the guy would be stupid enough to think he can take me now. Of course, according to the rest of the people in the room, he was arrested as well.

“Zachary?” Ike asked.

“What?” I asked.

“You pulled a Taylor, you spaced out on us. Is everything ok?”

“Taylor can you come get Alexander? He probably needs to burp a bit.”

Taylor got up and got him from her and after a quick burp he laid him down for a bit, Emily moved beside me.

“Zac, this is nothing. It’s probably some fan or something; it could be someone David knows they all got arrested Zac, all the women and men that were kidnapped were returned home to their families. They busted a big chain there. They got the man that was going to pay them for you.”

She was going to kill me and I was sure. “No they didn’t.”

“Zac you told me that Duncan said they got him.”

I dropped my head and it got quiet, I could almost see her face as well. “You lied to me?”

“The detective told me David said they never got his name, they asked him for days and he kept saying the same thing. You were worried about it and I didn’t think it was a big deal; we never got anything until now. I didn’t want you to worry anymore; I didn’t want anyone to worry so I just said they got him.”

“Come to think of it you never did give us anything beyond that.” Ike said.

“Yeah, because there isn’t anything to say, this is probably some fan joke but I will tell the detectives just in case and I promise if anything else suspicious happens I’ll be sure to tell you three and the detectives. As for this package, I’d like to keep that between us.”

“Yeah, Mom may freak if you show her that.” Taylor said.

“You shouldn’t have lied to me, I worried any damn way. Nothing stopped that.”

I smiled some. “Besides I have more things to worry about like that challenge this weekend.”

“Right…” She said.

“Challenge?” Taylor asked.

“Oh Jesus! Maddi and Max came up to see Alexander a few weeks ago and she mentioned some challenge Max did here in town at Fat guys burger bar. So, after some bantering we agreed to make it a competition and go for it. They’re coming up Saturday and we’re doing it that afternoon.”

“On my birthday, really Zac?”

Taylor snorted. “Dude, you know the party is that morning, don’t even act like you don’t know. Besides, after the party we could go with them. Maddi seems interesting and her pictures of them were awesome. I want to talk to her more.”

“Who all is doing it?” Ike asked.

“Me, Max, and Casey.”

“Hey Ike, Maddi and I have something devilish cooked up for the two that can’t beat the challenge or the two that eat less, would it be possible for you and Nikki to watch Alexander for a few hours Sunday?” Emily asked.

I looked at her confused, I figured whatever our something was it would at least be something kid friendly.

“What about Riley?” I asked.

She smiled. “So, while I have Hanson here…Max’s sister is a big fan and she’s coming up to watch Riley for them on Sunday. She wants to meet you guys too.”

“You could have asked me.” Taylor pouted.

“I asked Natalie and she said you guys had plans already, something about a family outing you promised and haven’t yet delivered on.”

“Oh…well, I guess I am busy then.”

“Nikki told me she was ok with it, but to ask you as well. Now that I can pump I can have his milk for you guys also.”
“By all means, bring diapers, milk, and clothes the rest we got covered! Monroe’s baby stuff is still at the house.”

She smiled. “Shouldn’t take too long, so are you also coming to the challenge because I think Jess will be there as well, that’s Max’s sister.”

“Sure, I mean we’ll ask the wives first but if they have no problem with it then we will attend. Someone will need to monitor them anyway!” Ike said.

“Truth.” Taylor said.

I rolled my eyes and diverted us back to business which we went to the dining room so we didn’t disturb Alexander with the music or our discussion. Emily helped when she could and she did seem a little more alert and she’d actually gotten the pump once while they were here and went up-stairs, returning later and putting little packages of milk in the fridge. They stayed for most of the afternoon before heading home and I fixed dinner for us and we just lounged. I did clean up some after dinner, mostly the kitchen. I wasn’t doing dishes daily because it was just the two of us.

The package did worry me a little bit, sure some weird fan could have mailed it to the studio, and we get stuff there all the time. But, in reality it didn’t make sense that a fan would send that let along engrave it like that. I didn’t say anything to Emily though, because sure it worried me but realistically this was no threat, it wasn’t anything bad and god I don’t know if I could handle anything else right now.
