Chapter 55 – It’s a….
POV: Zac / Emily

I was glad that after Eliza and Emily talked at the studio things calmed down. Eliza backed way off and it allowed Emily time to fully calm down and assess how she felt about everything and kind of clear her head. I couldn’t image finding out I had a twin brother after thirty years and it was a huge adjustment for all of us. I had been very worried about how she was responding and how quick she was to get so angry; it couldn’t be good for her or little bean.
It had also worked out because Alexander had gotten worse before he got better, it was good he saw the doctor early it helped but he’d been very clingy to us both. We’d ended up staying at home for three days because he just wasn’t in a condition to come in and I couldn’t leave her there alone and pregnant to handle him. He was with her in the office now, he’d finished his medication this morning but he was still in recovery sleeping more than normal. I was glad he was feeling better.
We were currently in the studio packing guitars for fools; we were leaving late tonight and wanted everything packed. My suitcases were already done and Dad was driving us to the airport. I just hoped Alexander didn’t go insane when I wasn’t here.
“Doesn’t Emily have a doctor’s appointment today?” Isaac asked.
“Yes, her appointment is at 1:40 and we have to leave by one.”
“Is this just a check up or is this a sonogram to determine the sex?” Taylor asked.
“Both actually, but whether we know what little bean is depends on little bean.”
“Are you taking Alexander with you?” Isaac asked.
“No. Velma is going to sit with him while we’re gone. He should be napping but I’m not sure if he’s been awake at all this morning.”
They grinned. “He was the last time I was up there.” Taylor said.
“That’s a plus then.”
We finished packing by 12:30 and I went up, she was ready but we waited until 1 to leave. We made it with time to spare! I was still apprehensive about the check up portion, I had attended all of Alexander’s appointments and I was determined I would this time as well, but it didn’t mean seeing her being poked and prodded was comfortable to me. After we were called back they got her weight, got urine samples, drew blood, and then moved her to a room where she changed. As they moved on I sat in the chair and watched how calm she was.
Comparing her pregnancy with Alexander with this one was eye opening. She had been so sick with him, not being able to eat much of anything. We had been worried that either she or Alexander would have problems because she didn’t gain a lot of weight with him, despite that he was born healthy and had a great birth weight. The secondary side effect wasn’t something I was going to complain about and honestly, I’d rather be tired as hell because she was super horny than watch her throw up everything she eats.
He indicated that everything looked well, she was on track for weight gain and the heartbeat sounded strong which it did. It was amazing to hear it again and know there truly was another human being there. When he asked if we had concerns she looked at me.
“She’s been getting upset very easily. By upset I made lunatic mad and ready to annihilate anything in the way. It’s been the last few weeks and I was wondering if there was anything we should be worried about.”
“What do you mean like just random times or just all the time?”
“It’s not all the time, usually in some situations but she normally doesn’t react this way.”
“Odds are it’s just the hormones, some pregnant women react very strongly to things. Some cry more, some are happier, some are madder, but I do want to caution you to try and limit those. Increasing your blood pressure and heart rate isn’t good for you or the baby.”
“I have tried just a specific situation seems to make it worse. But, maybe that is settled now.” She said.
He smiled. “Are you ready to move to the sonogram room? The technician should be ready for you.”
We both nodded and he lead us to the room, but we still had to wait for thirty minutes on the technician and then she took her time gathering the required measurements like leg length, head circumference.
“I am going with the doctor’s estimate of about 18 weeks and due around the end of June. You can hear the heartbeat which is steady and strong and anatomy wise everything looks good. Do you want to know if you’re having a boy or girl?”
“Please, if little bean of cooperative.” Emily said.
She moved the want more; Emily looked uncomfortable a few times, but she was pressing a bit hard in my opinion.
“Little one is being stubborn, leg is in the way. I’m going to try to get a better view.”
She kept moving the wand around and finally she paused and turned it.
“It looks like your having a boy.”
“Are you sure?” Emily asked.
“95 percent, they’ll do at least one more scan and we can double check then but it looks like a penis to me.”
I felt the blushing some, but Alexander was getting a little brother. She printed off some pictures and finished up the scanning before letting Emily get cleaned up. We saw the doctor afterwards; her blood work showed everything was fine. They scheduled the next appointment and we headed back, getting lunch on the way. The moment we opened the door to the studio we heard Alexander and went right to the studio. Velma, Taylor, and Isaac were all there trying to calm him down.
“What happen?” I asked.
“He woke up and I guess he wanted one of you, I have tried and so have they.” Velma said.
He went to Emily and she picked him up, I listened as she talked to him baby talk telling him it was ok and he finally laid his head down and just laid there.
“Well?” Isaac and Taylor asked.
“It’s a boy; Alexander will have a little brother.”
“Poor Penny. She had her heart set on a girl.” Taylor said.
“No kidding, that girl is more protected than me.” Emily said.
“Are you going to stick to that?” Velma asked.
“Why?” Emily asked.
“I just have this feeling; I don’t think your having a son. I could be wrong. You could call Maddi.”
“Maddi didn’t get any vision when we were down for Christmas, she tried when we told them we were expecting again.” She said.
Emily sat down and he was curled up in her lap, his head resting on her chest, she’d been telling him about the baby since December, we didn’t want him to be shocked.
“Well, since we’re packed and ready we can just chill at home I guess, spend some time with family. Unless either of you can think of anything we need to do.” Ike said.
“Not me, I’ll take time with the family.” Taylor said.
“I second that.”
“Actually, Zac can you clear those invoices before we go?” Emily asked.
“I sure can.” I said.
The others laughed as they left the room, leaving us alone and me stuck behind her desk. Which, I didn’t mind because soon I’d be here anyway. I finished the invoices and was going through some mail when I came across an envelope that wasn’t business related, it was addressed to Alexander.
“Did any of your brother’s mail anything to you for Alexander?”
“Not that they told me, why?”
I held up the envelope. “It’s addressed to him, not us.”
“Well, you did tweet about him being sick, maybe a fan mailed it?”
It was possible so I opened the card to see and inside was a get well card for a baby but when I opened the card pictures were inside and it wasn’t from a fan, the infinity symbol was boldly displayed on the left.
“Ems…” I said.
She got up and walked over, looked at the card and the pictures. The images were of us going in and out of doctor’s office both for her in December and for him the other day. There were words printed on hers and she picked it up.
‘OB two months in a row…looks like she’ll be raising two alone.’
“The card simply says hope he gets better soon.”
She called Eliza who came to the studio and got the items, Alexander didn’t even glance at her just clung to Emily. But she didn’t stay very long, just enough to pick up the pictures.
“I think you need to call Aaron or Christopher, someone to come stay with you while we’re gone.”
“Not required Zac, I’ll be fine at home. Aaron’s going to come with me here Wednesday so I can do paperwork and all and the rest of the time I am going to be at home. Jacey’s next appointment isn’t until after your home.”
I frowned but didn’t argue with her, we finally left the office and went home where I spent time with Alexander, who did seem to be feeling better here. I let him play with his drum set in the music room, it had been cleaned up and when I got back we were going to work on it, she couldn’t be around the paint but she could help do the stencil work and plans and just step out for the painting part. Alexander was doing well with sitting and hitting the right places, he loved sitting with me to play and I really couldn’t wait until he was old enough to really play. I also couldn’t believe we were having another boy, another baby. We were going to be parents all over again.
“Dada, baby.” Alexander said.
“Right, mama is having a baby. You’re going to be a big brother.”
He giggled some and played a little more before she called us for dinner, I didn’t take him back up though, I knew I’d be leaving soon and I didn’t want to add to the crying spell I was hoping he wouldn’t have. We sat down and had dinner together and caught a movie before Dad came by to get me. I was the last one he picked up, so I kissed them both before leaving. I hated leaving them but I knew she was right; we couldn’t just give up on our lives.
-Emily-
I had been hoping for a girl but I would definitely take another son, either way as long as little bean was healthy. The get well card to him upset me and honestly I wanted Zac to stay at home, I wanted them to be here and not leave. But I had let Zac tend to Alexander all afternoon, listened as they played the drums and marveled at how well he did play. He’d had dinner and even waved at them when they left, I was actually more relieved that he didn’t start screaming and crying for Zac, but that didn’t mean he wouldn’t later this week. I promised to send pictures, videos, and he promised to call every day.
After Zac left I made sure the alarm system was on high and the gate had closed. I went ahead and got Alexander ready for bed and he was in bed by 9:30. Because I really wasn’t that tired I drew a bathe and just sat there, the house was quiet and the water felt nice.
It gave me a moment to reflect on what to do with Eliza, because I had no idea really where I stood. On one hand I didn’t like her, didn’t like the way she just barged in and didn’t seem to care, yet she’d needed to know the past. On the other side, the idea of having a twin sister was nice, someone who was related to me and wasn’t an in-law, she was my blood sister. I liked the idea but thirty years was a long time to go without ever knowing and I had no idea how my brother’s were going to react to that news.
Then there was Ian, who really did seem to have backed way off, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that he wasn’t done and he was just bidding his time. I got out of the tub at eleven, slipped a gown on and laid down. It took longer for me to fall asleep though and I woke up around 3 and checked on Alexander, who was still asleep in his crib in his bedroom. I stood there for a bit beside his crib, reflecting that in a few months I’d be yet again sleep deprived but I really didn’t mind at all. Yet, the idea that I could handle two babies at the studio was kind of absurd. It wasn’t easy with just Alexander there, how could I manage two? I finally went back to bed was awake when Zac texted to say they’d made it, I replied to let him know we were ok as well.
